a robotic image is created by all members of the band wearing identical outfits and standing in similar positions behind their instruments on stage, they also tend to stand straight and keep movement to a minimum.

the members of joy division went for a smart/ casual image with their clothing and a somewhat insane image with their body movements on stage. led by ian curtis at the front performing all kinds of tweaks and twitches on stage while singing.
